The Institute for Technical Informatics at Graz University of Technology is looking for a motivated Ph.D. student to fill the open position as a University Assistant available from November 1, 2019 or later.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct highly-competitive research within the LEAD project “Dependability in the Internet of Things” and pursue a Ph.D. in the area of wirelessly-networked embedded systems. Specifically, the selected candidate will be working together with several Ph.D. students and senior researchers in the sub-project “Dependable Wireless Communication and Localization”.

We expect applicants to have interest in and/or prior experience with Cyber-Physical Systems and/or Internet of Things applications, as well as good knowledge in many of the following areas:

  • Ultrawideband and/or mmWave technology (physical and data link layer);
  • Media access control and routing protocols;
  • Distance estimation and location determination;
  • Resource-constrained embedded systems (both hardware and software);
  • C and MatLab programming;
  • Signal processing of radio signals.

Applicants must hold a Master degree (or equivalent) in computer engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering, and should have an excellent track record, maturity, self-motivation, as well as the ability to work both independently and in an interdisciplinary team. Experience in scientific projects, international cooperation and publication activities are considered an asset. Candidates should have very good command of the English language; knowledge of German is not required.

The position is remunerated according to the Kollektivvertrag for Austrian Universities, i.e., the salary amounts to roughly 40.100€/year before taxes and may increase depending on prior experience. The appointment for this position will be initially for 3 years full-time and the student will be sitting in the Inffeldgasse campus of TU Graz.

The LEAD project “Dependable Internet of Things” is a lighthouse research program of TU Graz – one of the two leading universities of technology in Austria, ranking on place 75-100 in the Shanghai subject ranking “Computer Science and Engineering”. Graz, the second largest city in Austria, is a young and lively city with more than 50.000 students situated south-east of the Alps.
It enjoys an almost Mediterranean climate and lifestyle and its medieval old town (one of the largest and best-preserved in central Europe) is a UNESCO world heritage site.
